BC2 Conquest: Main Base Attack Zones?

A common story for any Battlefield game since BF1942 are discussions about attacking starting bases or not, what is called base raping and what is allowed or not. Well if you read our Bad Company 2 Conquest Server Rules, you may question it yourself what the story is?

However, any reason to speak about?
Unfortunately yes ... a lot of gamers tend to believe in attacking the starting bases of their enemies. Perhaps purely with the interest to "disturb" the enemy immediately, to avoid that he would gain further ground on the battlefield (conquer flag positions), but most likely a more valuable reason for a lot of players attacking main bases are the easy to catch kills. Just a childish and lame behavior, using the spawn moment of the enemy soldier, which makes him impossible to know where he is located and due to the seconds of getting an orientation, being an easy target for a kill.

Furthermore the game concept developed by DICE does include a certain vehicles/weapons setup on starting bases, to allow both sides equally but differently, to move out and to conquer flag positions. Means the idea of the game is to fight A, B or C and not bases. Stealing equipment from enemy bases might be valid, due to fact that your enemy just became lazy to look at his material. But be careful not to kill anybody inside the "base zone" ...

So we all agree it would be a good idea to protect bases, is not it?

But how is it done and what are the rules in details? Well let me explain whats configured and how it does function.

Each map has a different layout and therefore different zone definitions whats called the main base. Further down this post I will post you a screenshot of each map currently being in the map rotation cycle of our conquest server, which does include a color indication of the so called 'base zone'.

So how is it determined if a disallowed kill happened?
Spawning positions are a bit tough in BC2, even worse than older BFs. From the technical aspect an admin cannot watch each players position currently playing on the server. But if a kill is made, the server reports killer and victim positions. Here we go, so learn the first fact about base protection, we need a disallowed kill first in order to rule.
If the kill was made the victims position will be checked for being within the specified base zone. If yes, the killer will be punished with an admin kill and an official warning. If the already warned killer will perform a base kill a second time, he will be kicked. If he does return and will do it again two times, he will be banned for a day. All automatic, no human needs to be next to you for your safety.

Ok good Mr. Admin, but how to prevent base camping and snipers sitting in their base and killing me all the time while I do play honest and just conquer flags?!???
Like every rule or definition, you always get a chance to sneak around and use it for your advantage. But of course we need to limit the base zone and open a way to overcome the base camping. But keep in mind, if you would allow enemies to come out their base, they most likely will do. Because if they insist on sitting in their base, they simply earn a lost round. But this is no fun for you either, I understand ... so therefore a distance of the killer to the victim is taken in consideration while checking if we speak about a base kill. The limit are 80 meters from the zone. So in simple words, if you are too close while shooting into a base and killing, you most likely will be punished. But if you are far away and for example use a sniper rifle to shoot that sniper sitting in his home base, you will have a regular kill and no harm will be done.

80 Meters? What the heck, how do I know how far I am away while playing ingame?
Of course you do not, but I can give you a hint, simply DO NOT shoot towards bases. That´s all. It is not that hard. If you focus on fighting the flag positions, you will be surprised how nice a gamelow can be.

I include in all the following screenshots a line, indicating you roughly (not a 100% precise) what does represent 80 meters. Now if you look into it closer, you will see that on most maps the first flag position to conquer from each base, is within the range. Of course it is ... how lame would it be if you conquer the closest flag position to the enemy base and you start shooting with your tank inside for the rest of the tickets?

So keep that in mind and enjoy your gaming!
